Body mass index (BMI) is an approximation of body fat which is based on weight and height. It uses an equation to evaluate body fat because it cannot estimate body fat directly. A healthy and unhealthy body of a person determined by BMI.

BMI value is low if there is too little fat seen in the body while BMI value will be high if there is too much fat in the body.

Higher the body fat in the body causes a higher risk of developing life-threatening diseases such as increased blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiac disease. Anemia, bone loss and decreased immune function caused due to the low value of BMI.

BMI calculation is simple and easy. One just has to divide their body weight by the square of that person height. Height can be measured in feet or cm and weight can be measured in kg or pounds.
